Notown

Anyone want to get in on the ground floor of a residential investment? The above is part of a photo essay by Yves Marchand and Romain Meffrey on the ruins of Detroit, as featured on Time.com.

Tracking back, I saw it linked by Ben Templesmith in reference to a pretty insightful column by Australian journalist Guy Rundle, as seen here.

There’s many places you can visit with your limited time on earth — the Turkish rivieria, Finland’s Ice Hotel, Mt Fuji, Wobbie World — but everyone who wants to understand the last century and this one, should see Detroit.

Why? Because Detroit is the first modern urban ruin, the largest city that has simply been allowed to die.

Not the opinions of Anheuser-Busch

This is just awesome.

Incidentally, even if you don't think an Obama win will usher in change, at least it will piss off racists. That might be one of the best reasons to vote Obama, actually, and I'm wondering where those TV spots are from his camp. Come on, ad people.

On McCain's thirst for dog blood ...

woW.

Just wow. I didn't even recognize Josh Brolin.

There are other versions of this trailer floating around, but the Talking Heads song really adds an appropriately surreal, tragi-comedy sense to this. Which is what the last eight years have been.

Sit on it, newsie!

I either didn't see the original reports or don't now remember them (it's been a while) but, according to Glenn Greenwald at Salon.com, ABC News aired a number of reports implicating Iraq in the anthrax mailing attacks following 9/11. These reports were denied by the White House, and in fact were completely erroneous.

ABC News cited "well placed" sources that very likely included (unless ABC News completely made the story up) personnel at the lab that employed Bruce E. Ivins, the guy who committed suicide this week and reportedly the FBI's lead suspect in the anthrax attacks. These sources, whoever they were, made up a story that ABC News reported, and which helped lead many to believe Iraq was involved in the anthrax attacks.

Who those sources/liars are would seem to be a massive story. A massive story ABC News, who never admitted their mistaken reporting, is sitting on.

Read on for more fun.

Bush surveys Bush-made disaster zone

I knew I should have stocked up on bread and eggs before his presidency.
